◎ History About Luchu


Historical Basics

Luchu used to be a place where reeds were all over the place. A lot of birds inhabit here. Because “reed” is pronounced “Luchu” in Mandarin, ancient residence lived here and gave the name—Luchu House. Today, Luchu’s industries, business, economic, and construction are rising rapidly. The environment became more convenient for living. People so called Luchu “The First Township”.
In 1946, this place had been changed the name into “Luchu Township” hence, because it was settled on the place where full of reeds.

Geographic
Luchu Township belongs to Taoyuan County. It is located on the north point of the county by the Pacific Ocean. The region ipictures from northeast reach out to southwest. One-third of the region is highlands which is located on the northeast. The rest of the region is plains. To look from the geographic position, Gweshun Township is at the east board of Luchu, Taiwan Taoyuan Int’l Airport, Dayuan, at the west, Taoyuan City at the south and Lin-Kou , Taipei County at the north. For the board by the Pacific Ocean, the coast is about 2-kilometer beautiful nature landscape.
Moreover, Luchu holds the key position of the transportation and plays the important role as the gateway of R.O.C. It also plays an important role of a transportation network by having the nearby Taiwan Taoyuan Int’l Airport and the Nankang(南崁) exit of the South-North Highway.

Historical Background
Four hundred years ago, Luchu was a desolation area. Only a few Aborigines and Netherlanders inhabited here. After Jen Chan-Kong(鄭成功), Ming Dynasty, restored the land. People started to move from Mainland China to inhabit here.
At the late Kwun-Sui(光緒) emperor, Chin Dynasty, people came from Chai-Ying(嘉應) , Kwan-Tong Province who used Nankang (南崁) Port to trade in between Kwan-Tong and Taiwan. The commerce was reaching its highest point. However the population started to grow at the time of Yuong-Jen (雍正) emperor, Chin Dynasty, when the residences from Chang(漳) and Chan(泉), Fu-Jen Province were coming to cultivate and develop the area.
In the year of Kwun-Sui(光緒) twenty-first, Japanese occupied Taiwan, and established Department in 1910. After R.O.C. government restored Taiwan, the government reformed Department into Province. The government also established Hsinchu as a County, Taoyaun as a District. Luchu became a Township which belongs to Taoyaun District. In 1950, Taiwan put “Home Rule” into practice. Hsinchu County was divided into Taoyaun County, Hsinchu County, and Miaoli County. Luchu belongs to Taoyaun County since then.

Because the gate of R.O.C. is located in Luchu area, the logo designed is based on an arch mingle with the wing of an airplane. The arch represents the splendid and grand of the gate of the nation. It is also a sign of welcoming which represents that Taiwan is the Nation of Etiquette. The wing of an airplane characterizes to soar in the sky without hindrance. For the shape of the wing is a “V” which represents victorious
The background of the main character has two pairs of crossing reeds. They have three meanings. First, they are to show Luchu Township’s concordance of common practice in political. Second, they are to indicate the area government’s zealous in helping the residences. Third, the reeds also represents that the people here are unsophisticated.
The whole design is full of human touch and contains a best wish to the Township.
